Daijiji Temple was originally a Tendai sect temple founded by the Oshu Fujiwara clan and was called Suwamori Daijiji Temple. After the downfall of the Fujiwara clan, the temple underwent a number of declines, but in 1429, it became a temple of the Soto sect, founded by the fourth priest of Shobo-ji Temple in Kuroishi, Ryoyo Nakayama, and continues to this day.
Since its founding, it has suffered several fires, and the main hall built in 1962 has been demolished, and Newly built in 2011. The Sanmon gate and main hall can be seen in a straight line from Itsukamachi National Highway, and can be said to be a typical Soto sect architectural style. In the precincts, there are the city-designated cultural properties Sanmon, Akibasan Daigongen, Saigyo's poem monument, stone pagoda, Atsujin's haiku monument, etc.
